• Plan your storage space. Place those items that you need to get to often in front. Allow for walking space between items.

  • Completely fill each box. Put your heaviest items on the bottom and the lighter items on top.

  • Try to keep your boxes of uniform sizes, so they may be stacked easier.

  • Label all boxes for easy identification. List the contents of the boxes on all four sides and seal the boxes with good quality packing tape.
  • Leave a small space between the wall and your storage items to allow for ventilation.

  • Pack your boxes and other items as close together as possible to avoid moisture accumulating between them. Make sure your boxes are strong enough to hold your items.

  • Furniture with drawers can be used as storage space for knickknacks, china, silverware and small items. Wrap these items in tableclothes, towels or blankets to prevent breakage.

  • Larger Appliances make excellent packing cases for linen and clothing.

  • Shovels, rakes, hoes and water hoses can be stored in an empty trash can. Stack extra trash cans inside one another.

  • Remove the legs from tables if possible to save space.

  • Sofas, Couches, Sleepers, and Loveseats should be covered with a waterproof cover and stored on end. Remove cushions, cover in plastic and store on top.

  • Upholstered furniture items need a cover to protect from dust and moisture.

  • When storing mattresses on end, make sure they are firmly braced to stand up straight to prevent them from bending out of shape and become "Lumpy".
